FSSAI’s new Labelling and Display regulations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has come up with the new Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 20201 (the Regulations) altering the landscape of food labelling regulations in the country. The new regulations emphasise on enabling consumers to make informed choices about their food purchases not only in the sphere of packaged food products but also on purchases from restaurants and e-commerce platforms. Though the industry is committed and is working towards it but there are multiple challenges to comply which requires a massive overhaul in all pack sizes labels across industry given the dynamic situation of COVID-19, finally FSSAI agreed to extend the timeline for compliance from 17th November 2021 to 1st July 2022.
