Development of Standards for Indian Mithais and Namkeens

FSSAI have constituted a taskforce on developing standards for Indian Mithais and Namkeens (TFIMN) to ensure food safety, essential quality, hygiene and labelling requirements using appropriate horizontal and vertical parameters. Various Industries & Sweets and Namkeen Federations are opposing this as regulating parameters such as Fat (%), Moisture (%), Sugar (%) etc. for Mithais and Namkeen will bring complexity for the industry in terms of fulfilling consumer requirement and their taste preferences.
